Margarette Golding Award - Shirley Farquhar
IW member Shirley Farquhar from IW Club of Dunedin Soth receives Inner Wheel's highest honour, the Margarette Golding Award.
The Margarette Golding award is the highest honour awarded to an individual through the Inner Wheel organisation and must be approved after receipt of substantial evidence of contributions to the community by the International Inner Wheel executive.
The award was established in the year 2000 and acknowledges the work of a very special individual.
At a special dinner on Wednesday 9 October the Inner Wheel club of Dunedin South was very excited to welcome Hazel Hunter, Past President of Inner Wheel New Zealand to this function. Hazel presented a certificate and badge to Shirley Farquhar for her over 40 years service to New Zealand and Otago Seafarers Society, 35 years service to both the provincial and national heart foundation and many years as a volunteer at the First Church Heritage centre. Many recipients have been grateful for the warm blankets and shawls Shirley has completed and given to babies and families in need of some extra winter warmth.
One of the first members to receive this award was the late Marge Allen who was a charter member of the Inner Wheel club of Dunedin South.
Special guests at the dinner welcomed by Past District NZ 298 chairman Christina King, included Alison Award NZ District 298 chairman, and Rosemary Chin NZ District 298 Secretary and Hazel Hunter, Past President for New Zealand Inner Wheel.
The 30 members of Dunedin South Inner Wheel club are very proud to have Shirley receive this award in 2015.
