New Plymouth Club sees the end results of a project and takes part in the Relay for Life

Going from babies to “RELAY FOR LIFE”

Fifteen of our ladies participated in the walk and it was the wettest day we have had for such long time, but they kept going.  They, at the beginning of the walk, walked proudly behind the fantastic banner made for them by Tony Epplett Signs. It was a relay and the ladies had their allotted times to walk, even in the pouring rain and even into the middle of the night.  They took turns, in the night, to climb into the stretcher beds they had, Pat said they, the stretchers didn’t have a chance to get cold.  In the morning they had a fantastic breakfast, bacon, eggs, sausages, baked beans and tomatoes, cooked for them by volunteers.   Altogether 71 teams took part, Schools, businesses, bowling clubs and many others, it was a tremendous turnout. So far the money raised is $84,000; our ladies raised $2170, and still counting.

PAPA NEW GUINEA

A letter, via Marion, to say that the woollen goods we sent to them had arrived. The little baby in blue is a brand new baby, born one hour ago.

From Kate; Marion’s friend in Papa New Guinea: Who makes singlets for babies.

Kate had taken singlets to hospital and was interested to hear that the nurses keep the singlets; she thought each child would be able to take the garment home with them.

They are washed and put away for the new born babies. Kate commented. What a rewarding activity we are involved in.
